For Associations and Non-Profits

e.magination designs and delivers interactive products and solutions for associations and non-profit organizations that enable our clients to better connect with and serve their members and constituents.

Large Industry Association

Project Summary:
e.magination executed a multi-phased web-based product strategy, design, development, and roll-out for a major Association of over 158,000 members in the Washington, DC area.

Strategy Services:
e.magination conducted a strategic analysis of the Association's existing web presence across the multitude of websites supported by their Programs and the Publications Divisions.  During the envisioning phase, e.magination produced several insightful reports for their executive management team with recommendations for their overall web presence strategy, a potential technology platform, a suggested organizational approach, and a detailed multi-year financial plan.  The executive team fully accepted the recommended strategic plan.

Subsequently, e.magination, conducted and managed the planning process for estimating cost, time and required resources for the initial Web Presence initiative.  Components of the comprehensive financial model included organizational change, information architecture, project leadership and more than a dozen enabling technologies.

Web Presence and Content Management:
Once a budget was approved, e.magination guided the Association through the first phase of Web Presence design and implementation projects, including:

  • Information Architecture (IA) – e.magination’s seasoned IA team conducted user research, persona development and mission flow design, and created a forward looking Concept Model, that was enthusiastically approved by the executive committee.  Ongoing activities, such as wireframe design and testing, content inventory, metadata and taxonomy development, and web performance benchmarking all contribute toward guiding the Association to a new constituent-centric web presence with increased content findability and much improved navigation.  Moreover, e.magination is committed to training the Association staff on IA principles and best practices.
  • Selection of a Web Content Management (WCM) System – Various e.magination staff, with broad experience with WCMS systems, conducted activities including requirements analysis, market research, RFP preparation, RFP scoring, vendor demos, technology assessment, financial due diligence, reference site visits, user group activity analysis and proof-of-concept testing.  The selected WCM system will provide the Association with the proper tools and processes to manage its future dynamic content environment.
  • Program Management – e.magination’s senior project leadership team provided direction for central project management group, oversight and coordination across multiple projects under the Web Presence umbrella, management of the overall Web Presence project roadmap with project inter-dependencies, mentoring Association project managers, communication with Project Management Office in the Information Technology department, and scoping/sizing of new projects.

On-Line Journal Publication:
In 2004, the Association embarked on the strategic launch of a new multi-disciplinary journal that would change the way its journals would be perceived by the community.  It changed the focus from print-centric processes to a web-centric approach, thus allowing the online journal to become the meeting place for industry professionals.  Working closely with the Association's stakeholders, e.magination developed a preliminary website design that defines content, functionality and features, site layout and navigation.  e.magination then led the implementation of the Journal website.

Web Analytics:
The Association requested e.magination to analyze the existing capabilities and generate recommendations regarding the future web analytics needs of the Publications Division.  After interviewing customers, business staff and technology specialists, and a thorough analysis of the web analytics product space, e.magination recommended IBM’s SurfAid product to meet the Association's needs.  e.magination first led the implementation of SurfAid, including a sophisticated business data integration component and achieving COUNTER compliance status.  Presently, e.magination is managing the process of implementing advanced capabilities.  e.magination staff also provide direct support for SurfAid to the Association's internal and external users in the form of training, problem solving and report development.
